What is RSSchool?
RSSchool is a free school run by The Rolling Scopes community and built around the pay-it-forward principle. Students from previous courses often return as mentors to pass their knowledge on to the next generation. You can read more about this wonderful school’s philosophy on its official website.
Final project
The final part of the course was a team project, Swagger Editor App. The task was to create a simple editor and interactive viewer for Swagger/OpenAPI specifications.
I was the Team Lead of Ship Happens on this project.
Being a team lead
My responsibility was not limited to writing code. I had to help the team, split the work into understandable pieces, discuss technical decisions, review changes, and eventually bring the separate parts together into one product.
That was the most valuable part of the course for me. I unexpectedly realized how cool it is to explain a concept that seems simple and obvious to you, and then see the other person put it together: understanding why it matters and how to apply it.
What we built
During the work my teammates (one of whom had not worked with Next.js before) gained practical experience with Next.js, Supabase, testing, localization, and deploying a real application.
More importantly, we worked together on a project that was noticeably larger than a typical course assignment.
Team and links
Thanks to Natasha and Sergei for the work we did together.
The course is finished, but the experience of working in a team and mentoring others will remain useful long after receiving the certificate.
